WordPress 2.1 Released

The much awaited addition to the WordPress Updates is now available for download. Matt of WordPress is proud to announce the release of the latest version of WorPress codename "Ella" who was named after the jazz vocalist Ella FitzGerald. WordPress 2.1 offer loads of great features.

So what's new in this version? here are the sample features that users may look forward to:

- Autosave makes sure you never lose a post again.

- New tabbed editor that allows you to switch between WYSIWYG and code editing instantly while writing a post.

- Lossless XML import and export makes it easy to move your content between WordPress blogs.

- Completely redone visual editor that includes spell checker.

- New search engine privacy option allows you to choose if you want your blog to be pinged or indexed by a search engine.

- Easier content management system allows you to choose any page and set it as your frontpage and put the latest post somewhere else.

- A more faster and efficient database code compared to the previous versions.

- Sub category supported links in your blogroll and redesigned login screen. You can also add categories on the fly.

- More AJAX to make custom fields, moderation, deletions, and more all faster. My favorite is the comments page, which new lets you approve or unapprove things instantly.

- Pages can now be drafts, or private.

- Our admin has been refreshed to load faster and be more visually consistent.

- The dashboard now instantly brings RSS feeds asynchronously in the background.

- Comment feeds now include all the comments, not just the last 10.

- Better internationalization and support for right-to-left languages.

- The upload manager lets you easily manage all your uploads pictures, video, and audio.

- A new version of the Akismet plugin is bundled.

Matt also announced that the next version is expected to be released on April 23 of this year.
